Mr. Walter “Don” Dawn Johnson was born in West Columbia, SC on October 11, 1942. He departed his life on October 26, 2020. He was born to the late Mose and Annie Griffin Johnson. “Don” was educated in the public school system at Lakeview High School. He was an outstanding baseball and football player. He was instrumental in bringing home the Lakeview Tigers Championship during the 1961-1962 season. He was a proud Lakeview Tiger.
After graduation, “Don” enlisted into the United States Marine Corps, where he served on active duty for six years. After his military career ended, “Don” worked in Canton, Ohio for the Timken Company. He retired after 32 years. He later moved back to his hometown of West Columbia, SC in 2003 to enjoy his retirement.
He joined the Bible Way Church of Atlas Road where he attended until God called him home. “Don” was a big sports fan. Along with his Lakeview Tigers, he loved the Cleveland Browns and the USC Gamecocks. Prior to his health declining, he loved to fish. He always spent time with his lovely wife Bridget. She was the love of his life. He met Ms. Bridget Hambrick in 2000 and they later married in 2004. He always talked about his children and grandchildren, whom he loved so dearly.
“Don” was the last living son of Mose and Annie Johnson, He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Cora Ruth, John Arms, Willie Mose, Jack Peter, John Lee, Mary, Lemmie, Elizabeth and Roy.
Mr. “Don” Johnson leaves his legacy to his wife, Bridget Johnson of the home; his children, Walter “Don” Jr. of Columbus, OH, twins Michele Johnson of San Diego, CA, & Michael Johnson—friend Cristina of Canton, OH, Taajah Hamrick of Canton, OH, and the late Janie Parsons and Dennis Lee Parsons; twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; sisters, Lois Franklin of West Columbia, SC, and Brenda and Linda; two sisters-in-law, Norma Johnson of West Columbia, SC and Khalimah Sulton of Canton, OH; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends that who miss him dearly.
