Thomas Wayne Foster, 90, of West Columbia died at his home on Monday, December 2nd. He was the third son of Archer and Fannie Viar Foster. Tom was born in Barboursville West Virginia. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1954 to 1958, then graduated from the Journalism School of Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. He worked as a Newsman in Huntington, West Palm Beach and Fort Myers Florida, Peoria Illinois, Chico and San Francisco California. His lifelong passion was golf; playing golf, watching golf, and introducing golf to anyone interested in the game. He was also a talented watercolorist.
He is survived by his best friend and partner of 30 years, Edwa Mitchell Meek, his brother Gregory of Huntington, and sister Sue King of Proctorville Ohio. He also leaves his daughter, Rhonda Marin of Tequesta Florida, and his son, Will Foster of Colorado Springs Colorado, Edwa's daughters Patricia Boggs and Catherine (Blake) Buchanan of West Columbia, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, brothers Donald and William Foster, his son Joel, and Edwa's daughter Amanda Snow.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 7th at 2 PM at Dust to Dust cemetery in Swansea SC. Pressley Cares Mortuary Services will be assisting. The family requests that no flowers be sent. Instead, donations may be made to the Irmo Fire Foundation, 6017 St Andrews Road, Columbia SC 29212; Trinity United Methodist Church, 1201 Mohawk Drive, West Columbia SC 29169, or a charity of your choice.
