Larry Richard Jones Jr. “JJ”, 57, of West Columbia, South Carolina, passed away on January 2, 2026. He was born on April 6, 1968, in Columbia, South Carolina, and was the son of the late Larry Richard Jones Sr. and Frances Jones Herndon.
JJ was preceded in death by his father, Larry Richard Jones Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Maxson and Dora Mae Jones; and his maternal grandparents, Hewitt and Monta Mattingly.
JJ was a dedicated electrician who proudly served with both SCE&G and the University of South Carolina. While he was known for his strong work ethic, it was his heart for others that truly defined him. JJ had a servant’s heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He never met a stranger and was known for his outgoing personality, infectious laughter, and warm smile. Above all, JJ deeply loved his family and friends.
A passionate Gamecock fan, JJ enjoyed spending his free time boating, fishing, and hanging out with friends. He especially cherished time with his family, including his sister, Kimberley (Kim) Jumper, and her children, Kendal (Hannah) and Kolby (Kayla).
JJ will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, often leaving others smiling with his familiar and heartfelt words, “God bless.”
JJ is survived by his mother, Frances Jones Herndon, and her spouse, Thomas Herndon; his sister, Kimberley (Kim) Jumper; his nephews, Kendal (Hannah) and Kolby (Kayla); his aunts and uncles; along with many cousins, extended family members, the many “nephews” who called him “Unc”, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 8, 2026, at The Harvest Church in Lexington, South Carolina. Interment will follow at Dust to Dust Cemetery in Swansea, South Carolina, at 1:00 p.m. A celebration of life will take place at Boze’s at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Harvest Church in his honor.
