Julian Michael Johnson was born on November 10, 1949 to the late Ester Johnson, Sr and the late Vina Mays Johnson in Neeses, SC. He was affectionately called, “Skeeter” by his loving family and friends.
He graduated from Dover High School in North, SC in 1968 as the Class Valedictorian. He attended Voorhees College in Denmark, SC and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. In 1974, he moved to Laurens, SC where he was employed at Laurens Glass Factory for over twenty years. In 1997, he returned to living in North, SC and later moved to Lexington, SC where he resided for the last seven years.
“Skeeter” loved his family, enjoyed cooking and eating, and was an avid card player. One of his favorite past times was fellowshipping with his family and friends at cookouts, fish frys, and family reunions. He especially enjoyed playing Bid Whist with his partners, John Henry and Dwight “Pokey” at family functions. He really enjoyed the Johnson’s staple, boiled peanuts. Although “Skeeter” always enjoyed cooking and eating, he especially enjoyed those activities with his daughter and granddaughter. He also loved to take his siblings, nephews, and nieces puddin’, bologna, bacon, and boiled peanuts at their requests or as a surprise.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Lewis Johnson, John Henry Johnson, and James Johnson.
He is survived by: his wife, Roslyn Smith Johnson, of Laurens, SC; two sons, Ryan (Josette) Johnson of Charleston, SC, and Brandon Johnson of San Diego, CA; one daughter, Sinitra Johnson, of Lexington, SC; three grandchildren, Jordan Shipman and Jackson Johnson of Charleston, SC and Sydney Smith of Lexington, SC; one sister, Edna Jennings of North, SC; and six brothers, Ester Johnson, Jr. of Memphis, TN, Walter (Mary) Johnson of Hope Mills, NC, Willie Clay (Ruby) Johnson of Swansea, SC, Hercules (Jeanette) Johnson of Swansea, SC, Edward (Emma) Johnson of Fayetteville, NC, and Dwight Johnson (Evette) of Cincinnati, OH; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Johnson of Orangeburg, SC and Jean Johnson of Irmo, SC; the oldest niece, Gwendolyn Norris (whom “Skeeter” called “Baby Sis”); one uncle, Mathew (Joanne) Johnson of Cambridge Heights, NY; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.
