JoAnn (Franz) Hall died peacefully in her sleep on October 1, 2023, after a short illness. She was born on October 7, 1942, to Bennie and Irene Franz in Ellendale, ND. She grew up there on her family’s dairy farm with her brothers and sister and enjoyed a wealth of family in the surrounding area. If you knew JoAnn, you knew that she loved God, her family, cooking, music, photography and the outdoors.
As a child, JoAnn could usually be found outside helping with milking or other chores; she also loved to ride horses and ice skate and fish. As an adult, her favorite place to spend time was out in nature, and she especially loved the mountains. Ohanapecosh State Park near Mt Rainier, and Whistling Jack Lodge were where she spent many weekends, enjoying hiking and studying her Bible. She always said that God saved the best sunrises and sunsets for Sabbath and that she felt closest to Him when she was outdoors. JoAnn loved to share this joy in nature with her family and friends, often inviting them to camp with her. She also loved to go fishing with her husband in Ilwaco and was never squeamish about helping with the fish they caught.
In regards to hobbies, JoAnn had three great loves in her life; preparing extravagant dinner parties, taking pictures, and detailed Bible study of Daniel and Revelation. She loved to cook and bake for others. If you were ever invited to one of her special big meals, you never forgot it! She was an exceptional cook and this was a favorite way to show the people in her life how much they were loved. There were never fewer than 17 items on her menus. She also loved music and especially enjoyed playing her piano, passing her love for music on to her children. If you ran into JoAnn at a social event, it wasn’t unusual to see three cameras around her neck, a video camera and two different professional cameras. She took pictures of everything!
She spent much of her professional life as an Insurance Agent, specializing in products that helped people through significant illnesses and care in their later years. JoAnn was dedicated to her clients, often driving to the homes of elderly clients to help them with their claims paperwork. Many have remarked on her kindness to them during the most difficult times in their lives.
After retiring, JoAnn decided to put her 30+ years of Bible study on prophecy into a beautiful workbook that would help others understand end time events. She wrote a beautiful book entitled, “Earth’s Final Hours,” which can be found on Amazon. Her passion to help people understand the character of Jesus grew with each passing year.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Irene (Sprouse) Franz, her brother, Tim Franz, her daughter-in-law Amy (Plues) Hall, and her great-grandson, Liam Hall. She is survived by her husband, Curtis Franz, sister Lois Smith, brothers Ken and Jim Franz, and her children, Sandi (Wendy) Aston Hall, Barbara (Bill) Kerr, James Hall, and Linda Rothenberger, as well as 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A virtual service will be held on October 7, 2023 at 6:00 pm EST.
