“The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.”
Psalm 23: 1-2
Mr. James “Bubba” Walter Glenn Sr., beloved husband of Eartha J. Glenn, departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital after a brief illness.
Born on November 3, 1937, in Lexington County, SC, Mr. Glenn was the son of the late Josephine Holmes and Johnnie “Doc” Glenn. He attended the public schools of Lexington County and graduated from Lakeview High School. Shortly after graduation, he entered the United States Air Force where he was trained as a fuel specialist. He was honorably discharged on October 17, 1961. After serving in the military, Mr. Glenn was employed as a driver for Saia LTL Freight Columbia. He later joined Transus Freight, where he continued to drive freight until his retirement after 40 years.
James and Eartha Glenn were united in holy matrimony on November 23, 1971. Together, they built a loving family life at their residence on 3608 Belvedere Drive. There, Mr. Glenn enjoyed working around the house. Even though Mr. Glenn was a man of few words, he was very fond of his family and always greeted everyone with a smile. Rarely would you see Mr. Glenn without his wife by his side.
Mr. Glenn was a lifelong, faithful member of Turner Memorial A.M.E. Church, where he regularly attended services with his wife until his health began to fail. He sang on the Men’s Day Choir and was honored as Turner Memorial Man of the Year in 2017.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Glenn was also preceded in death by four sisters, Christine Hatten, Evelyn Ashford, Margie Blassingale, and Trudella Blassingale, one brother, T. W. Glenn, and son, Christopher Tyrone Glenn.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted and loving wife, Eartha J. Glenn; children LaVeda Simmon, and James Glenn, Jr.; stepdaughter, Joan Jacobs and stepsons John Gordon and Vincent Davidson; one sister, Patsy Rumph; one sister-in-law, Carrie Lee Edwards (Washington, DC); seven grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.
Arrangements are entrusted to Pressley’s Funeral Home of West Columbia, SC.
