Jacob McCorley Smith, Jr. affectionately known to all as “Junior” or “Jake”, of Columbia, South Carolina, was born on March 13, 1955. Jake was educated in the public schools in Lexington County. He was a proud 1973 graduate of Airport High School and a 1975 graduate of Midlands Technical College. Jacob was a member of Brookland Baptist Church, where he served as an Usher. His career endeavors include being an Electrical Draftsman at South Carolina Electric & Gas, Square D, and Allied Chemical. He enjoyed ten years of employment at Value City Furniture. Jacob’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish and manage Jake’s Lawn Maintenance, providing loyal service to his customers for over 15 years.
Jacob was a wonderful, loving and devoted husband, father, brother, friend and neighbor. When he was not working, he spent all his time helping his family and friends. Also volunteering as a member of the Northeast Optimist Club. One of Jacob’s most treasured pastimes was coaching his children’s sports teams. He coached both Clifton and Chad’s soccer, basketball, baseball, and football teams. During which time they won multiple season championships and SCYSA State Championship.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Hazel McCorley Smith.
