Columbia, South Carolina - Charles Roberts “Pete” Goddard, 74, died on February 13, 2025 after years of health complications. Pete was born in Columbia, SC on March 6, 1950. He graduated
from Lower Richland High School in 1968. While in high school Pete developed a passion for math and would go on earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree in math along with a master’s degree
in statistics. Pete’s lifelong career as a math teacher started at USC in Columbia. Pete also taught at Francis Marion University in Florence, SC and Queens College in Charlotte, NC. By far the
favorite part of his teaching career was the years he spent at Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College, OC Tech.
Pete loved his students and he wanted them to succeed in math. He made himself available for office hours and after hours by phone to help with homework. He also loved and was loved by his faculty colleagues at OC Tech, often socializing with them after hours. Pete’s other interests included music, astronomy, cycling, archery, firearms, motorcycles, and going fishing. Pete was a follower of Jesus Christ having accepted him as his Lord and Savior.
Pete is survived by his brother, Mark Goddard (Gloria); niece, Jessica Bosshardt (Travis) and their daughter, Allison and son, Logan; niece Stephanie Opet (Carl) and their son, Warren. He was predeceased by his parents Charles O. and Mary R. Goddard, and a younger brother, Joseph D. Goddard.
The family will receive friends from 3:00-4:00 p.m., Monday, February 17, at Bishop’s at the Mill, 200 S Spring Street, Swansea, SC. A brief service will follow at 4:15 p.m. at Dust-to-Dust Green Burial and Nature Reserve Cemetery, 205 Nulty Crossing Rd, Swansea, SC.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the church or charity of your choice.
